... SUPER OVER, FIRST INNINGS ...
Bangladesh will be playing their first-ever Super Over in men's internationals. Pressure will be on both sides, and if you did not know, it will be the West Indies batting first, as the rule is that the chasing side in the regular contest will bat first. The hosts will have to take inspiration from that last over and restrict the Windies to as low as possible, while the visitors will hope to set up a target that they can defend on this tricky wicket. Let's see how things pan out now.
Would you believe it? We are heading to a Super Over in this 2nd ODI, and the players and coaching staff of both sides look absolutely stunned at how we have got here. Nurul Hasan looks dejected after dropping that catch, but credit must go to Saif Hassan for the way he handled pressure in that last over, giving away just four runs. Also, Shai Hope for the way he has batted did not deserve to see his side lose like this, and the Windies have a chance of redemption now.
Saif Hassan to Khary Pierre
DROPPED AND WE ARE GOING TO A SUPER OVER! Saif Hassan is down on his haunches in disappointment. Drags the length back, does Saif, on middle. Khary Pierre goes for the slog sweep again but is unable to get under the ball in a fashion he would have liked. Skies it up towards square leg, around the edge of the circle. The keeper, Nurul Hasan calls for it as he sprints to his right and dives in front but fails to cling on. The ball drops on the ground beside him and the converging Mustafizur Rahman tries to pick it up and release the throw but juggles a bit and it is enough for the batters to complete the second run. Incredible scenes in Mirpur. After 100 overs, there is nothing separating the two sides.
Khary Pierre is the last man in. Shai Hope can only watch and hope from the other end now. Pierre needs to hit a boundary or six to win the game, but if he manages a couple, it will be a tie.
Saif Hassan to Akeal Hosein
OUT! TIMBER! You miss, I hit, says Saif Hassan! Unbelievable scenes in Mirpur. This is fired in by Hassan, full in length, on the off pole. Hosein walks across, gets down on a knee and attempts the slog sweep for the third time in the over. The ball sneaks past the inside edge, brushes the front pad and goes through the legs of the batter to crash into the off pole. Hope is left stranded at the other end with the West Indies needing 3 off the final ball.
A bit of a conference between the batters now. It's nail-biting stuff here, and if the scores are level here, we will head into a Super Over.
Saif Hassan to Shai Hope
Stays around the wicket, does Saif for the right-hander. This is pushed across, on the shorter side. Hope goes on the back foot and punches it away to deep cover for a single. 3 required off 2 for the Windies.
Saif Hassan to Akeal Hosein
Quick single sneaked in! Flat and short, on off, Hosein hangs on the back foot and waits for the ball to arrive. Dabs it in front of backward point and sets off. Tanvir Islam gets rid of the ball quickly and fires in a throw towards the batting end. Nurul Hasan breaks the stumps and it is referred upstairs but the replays show that Nurul did not gather it and dislodged the bails without having the ball in his hand. 4 needed from 3 for West Indies.
Saif Hassan to Akeal Hosein
And again! Another one from Saif that stays low, on a nagging length. Akeal Hosein is across his stumps and has a hack across the line but fails to connect.
Saif Hassan to Akeal Hosein
Saif starts well! Akeal makes the early shuffle across the stumps but Saif holds his line and length. Fires in from around the wicket. Hosein gets down on a knee for the slog sweep but misses.
5 needed in the last over. The only bowler left who has bowled in this game is Saif Hassan. Maybe a bit of miscalculation from Mehidy Hasan Miraz to keep him for the final over. There is a big discussion going on between the Bangladesh players about who will bowl this over. Soumya Sarkar is an option, but it will be Saif Hassan. Can he defend 4 runs here?
Mustafizur Rahman to Akeal Hosein
Rahman bangs it into the surface, outside off. Akeal Hosein swings across the line and does not quite get hold of it. The ball rolls off the inner half to deep mid-wicket for a single. 9 runs off the penultimate over. West Indies need 5 runs from the final over.
Mustafizur Rahman to Shai Hope
On a short of a length, on middle. Shai stands tall and whips it to long on for a single.
