Opening batter Mitchell Owen has earned a first call-up to the Australian national team, for the T20Is against West Indies.
On Wednesday (June 4), Australia named their squads for the Tests and T20Is against West Indies for their tour across June and July.
Mitchell Owen called up to Australia squad for the first time
Owen, 23, hit the headlines when he smoked an incredible 39-ball century for Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League final this January to stun the Sydney Thunder and seal a maiden title for the Hurricanes. He finished as the top run-scorer in the league, with 452 at an average of 45.2 and strike rate of 203.6.
Those performances earned the Tasmanian franchise deals with Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League and Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League – and now, he has made the Australian squad for the first time.

Spinner Matthew Kuhnemann, a steady fixture in the Test side of late, has also been named in the T20I squad with a debut in the shortest format a possibility. Marcus Stoinis, who announced his ODI retirement earlier this year, has been left out of the T20I squad while Glenn Maxwell, who did the same just two days ago, remains part of the set-up.

Kuhnemann, Josh Hazlewood, Josh Inglis and Cameron Green are the four players named in both squads. Travis Head, Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc remain available for Australia in all formats, but will only play the Tests on this tour.
