
Former Royal Challengers Bengaluru squad member Sonu Yadav hit a 26-ball fifty in Tamil Nadu’s 1st Division The Raja of Palayampatti Shield.
At the IIT-M Chemplast Ground, Jolly Rovers CC faced Nelson Sports Club. Batting first, Nelson posted 387, powered by Rithik Easwaran (133) and Robin Singh Bist (84). Jolly Rovers' Sonu also starred with a sensational 7-62 off 24 overs.
Then Sonu, batting at No.8, smashed a fifty off 26 balls. He got to the landmark with a six off Karthikeyan R. Overall, he hit five sixes and three sixes en route to his half century. Vimal Khumar R (128) and Lokeshwar S (135) starred as centurions, with Jolly Rovers ending day three with a 54-run first innings lead.
As soon as he completed his half-century with a six, Jolly Rovers declared as the two captains shook hands on a draw.
Sonu earned an IPL stint with Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2023 but was released the following year without playing a game. The 25-year-old currently represents Tamil Nadu in domestic cricket, featuring in six first-class, 11 List A, and six T20 matches. His bowling returns include 20 wickets (24.35 average) in first-class cricket, 10 wickets (39.40 average) in List A matches, and nine wickets (16.11 average) in T20s, with his lone fifty (57) coming in the red-ball format.

Sonu’s fifty follows his recent Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) heroics, a hat-trick for Nellai Royal Kings against Trichy Grand Cholas. Delivering a stunning final over, he took all three wickets while conceding just two runs, restricting Trichy to 157-8. After leaking 20 runs in his first two overs, he finished with 3-22 off three. Later, he sealed Nellai’s win with a six, clinching victory with five wickets and four balls to spare.
