Heather Knight, the former England captain, has been ruled out of home international cricket in 2025, as well as the Hundred.
Knight faces lengthy recovery
Knight suffered a hamstring tendon injury during the third T20I against West Indies Women, battling the issue during her half-century at Chelmsford. She hit 66 off 47, but did not come out to field, and underwent scans the day after. For the ODIs, England brought in Alice Capsey as cover for Knight.
Now, an update from the ECB has confirmed the injury is serious, ruling her out of home international matches across 2025. It also means she will miss out on the Hundred, and will undergo further assessment with the England Women medical team to determine the next steps for the injury's management.
It could also put her in doubt for the 2025 Women's World Cup in September: with no timeline for recovery set yet, the ECB is hoping she will still be fit in time.
Former captain to miss India series
England play the West Indies in a three-match ODI series starting May 30, and are also set to take on India in five T20Is and three ODIs across June and July. The ODI leg would serve as ideal preparation for the World Cup the month after, but now Knight's injury has ruled her out of that series.
Knight's nine-year stint as captain ended after England's 16-0 Ashes whitewash. England will be hoping she gets fit in time for a spot in the ODI World Cup, having missed the T20 edition last year due to a hip injury.
England squad for the West Indies ODIs: Nat Sciver-Brunt (c), Emily Arlott, Tammy Beaumont, Lauren Bell, Alice Capsey, Kate Cross, Alice Davidson-Richards, Charlie Dean, Sophia Dunkley, Lauren Filer, Mahika Gaur, Sarah Glenn, Amy Jones, Heather Knight, Emma Lamb, Linsey Smith
