Jamaica openers John Campbell and Kirk McKenzie continued to plunder runs in the revamped West Indies first-class tournament.
Second consecutive double-century stand for John Campbell, Kirk McKenzie
Barbados had set Jamaica 324 in the first round of the revamped West Indies Championship, at Chedwin Park in Spanish Town. Captain Campbell (126 in 158 balls) and McKenzie (135 not out in 180), however, as good as killed the chase inside four hours by putting on 242 for the opening stand in just 48.5 overs. The chase eventually took them a mere 61 overs and three wickets.
In the second-round match against the same opposition at the Sabina Park Cricket Ground in Kingston, the pair came out all guns blazing after Campbell won the toss and opted to bat. This time they added 202 in a mere 36.1 overs before Campbell fell for a 111-ball 96. McKenzie, however, went on to score 114 in 146 balls.
Javille Glen also smashing an 81-ball 65, but Jamaica slowed down thereafter (relatively, at least) to finish the day on 358-4 after 76 overs of batting. Brad Barnes (34) and wicketkeeper Romaine Morris (9) were at the crease. Johann Layne has taken two of the four wickets, while Jair McAllister and Jomel Warrican have shared the others.
Elsewhere, in Antigua, Guyana rode on Matthew Nandu’s 54 to finish the day on 130-2 after Nial Smith (5-36) helped bowl out the Windward Islands for 151.
And in North Sound, Karima Gore (57) helped the Leeward Islands reach 131 as Anderson Phillip returned 6-38. Kelvin Pitman (4-20) then hit back, reducing Trinidad & Tobago to 85-6 by stumps.
