Only 17 games into his T20I career, Abhishek Sharma became the top-ranked batter in the world in the format.
Abhishek displaces the Head of the table
Three T20I series were played over the last week. Australia swept the West Indies 5-0 in the Caribbean, Bangladesh beat Pakistan 2-1 at home and New Zealand beat South Africa to win the Tri-Nation tournament in Zimbabwe.
Australia had rested Travis Head from the West Indies series. Since missing games hurt ICC ratings, Head fell from 847 to 814 after missing five T20Is. That meant that with 829, Abhishek became the top-ranked batter in the world with only 17 T20I caps.
Josh Inglis broke into the top ten and is now ninth, while Shai Hope did just enough to keep his tenth place. Both of them moved past Yashasvi Jaiswal, who slipped to 11th place. Tim David rose 12 places as well to reach 624, but the truly spectacular rise was Cameron Green’s, from 88th to 24th.
Ellis, Henry, Abbott, Hardie rise
Excellent performances resulted in Nathan Ellis’ rise from 15th to joint eighth, and Sean Abbott’s, from 44th to 23rd. Elsewhere, Matt Henry went from 29th to 19th, though none of them matched Aaron Hardie, who jumped 47 places to reach joint 71st. Jacob Duffy, Adil Rashid, and Varun Chakravarthy continued to occupy the top three places in that order.
