Marnus Labuschagne responded to Jordan Buckingham’s ‘no run’ call imitation by bouncing him out in a Sheffield Shield encounter.

Queensland and South Australia faced off at the Gabba in round eight of the 2025/26 Sheffield Season, with a spot in the final on the line. Buckingham, batting at No.10 for the away side, was dismissed for a five-ball duck by Labuschagne in the first innings, but not before a bit of drama.

The right-arm pacer knocked Labuschagne’s medium pace towards short mid-wicket and shouted “no run”, imitating the Australia Test batter’s famous call. Labuschagne responded by bowling a bouncer, which Buckingham attempted to clip off his hip into the leg side. However, he was cramped for room and ended up turning the ball straight to Hugo Burdon for a diving catch at short leg.

Queensland were put into bat first in the match, and were subsequently bowled out on the first day for 185, with Jimmy Peirson (52) and Hayden Kerr (43) making crucial contributions. Labuschagne, captaining the side, could score just eight runs while his former Australia teammate Usman Khawaja was dismissed for 15.

South Australia lost three quick wickets in reply, with just 28 runs on the board, but consolidated to end the day at 62-4. However, they started the second day on the wrong note, losing two wickets for just 19 runs and were reduced to 81-5. Jake Lehmann and Liam Scott steadied the ship, adding 90 runs for the sixth wicket to take them close to a first-innings lead.

While Scott fell, Lehmann held the other end for a little longer and was the last wicket to be dismissed as South Australia were bowled out for 214, taking a 19-run lead. Queensland cancelled the deficit and then reached an 81-run lead to finish day two on 110-4, with the match finely poised. Khawaja and Labuschagne failed with the bat again, scoring four and two, respectively.
