UAE sprung a surprise when they defeated India A in the Women’s Asia Cup Rising Stars T20 today (February 13).
The tournament began today in Bangkok, with Pakistan A taking on Nepal in the first game of the tournament. Pakistan A managed a 30-run win before the defending champions India A took the field for the second match of the day.
India A won the toss and opted to bat first, a decision that did not pay off, as they lost opener Humairaa Kazi for three. They were soon reduced to 26-3 in 5.2 overs, before Anushka Sharma tried to steady the ship. Batting at No.4, she made 47 in 45 deliveries with seven fours, but had little support, with five batters in the top seven scoring in single digits. She fell when the score was 93-7 in 16.2 overs.

Skipper Esha Oza led from the front for the UAE: she first piled on a 40-run stand with Theertha Satish for the first wicket, in which the latter contributed ten runs, before sharing a match-winning second-wicket partnership with Dhamidharka (34 in 31). The duo put on 71 runs in 9.5 overs, as the India A bowlers, led by skipper Radha Yadav, failed to leave a mark. Oza eventually was unbeaten on 72* (61), with eight fours and two sixes, as the UAE saw off the target with four balls to spare.
The UAE and India are placed in Group A, alongside Pakistan A and Nepal. The former's next game is against Nepal on Sunday (February 15), while India A will take on Pakistan A on the same day.
