Georgia Voll scored her maiden T20I century to lead Australia to a clean sweep against the West Indies in a three-match series.
Georgia Voll smashes maiden T20I ton
With her 101-run knock, she became the second-youngest T20I centurion for Australia at 22 years and 230 days, overtaking Beth Mooney, who is now down to third. Former captain Meg Lanning still holds the record for being the youngest from Australia to score a women's T20I century, doing so at the age of 22 years and two days against Bangladesh back in March 2014.
After being put into bat first by the West Indies in the third T20I of the series, Voll, opening alongside Mooney, hit a boundary off the second delivery she faced, and didn’t look back after. She raced to a 28-ball fifty with a four off Aaliyah Alleyne, and took 24 more deliveries to get to three figures off 52.
Voll took special liking to Deandra Dottin’s right-arm pace, hitting her for consecutive boundaries in the fifth over, and a six and a four each in the 11th and 17th overs while also getting to her hundred with a boundary off the all-rounder. She was Australia’s fifth wicket to fall, with 174 runs on the board, in the 18th over.
Captain Sophie Molineux, batting for the first time in the series, played a whirlwind cameo of 25 off 12 to take her side to 211. West Indies were batting at 61-3 after 10 overs when rain stopped play. The rain didn’t relent, and with the home side 40 runs behind the DLS par score, Australia were declared the winners.
