Suryavanshi smashes 78-ball century vs AUS U19

Fourteen-year-old Suryavanshi has been turning heads with his incredible batting feats, having already recorded an IPL century and played first-class cricket. At the U19 level, he's stood out, and now has two centuries in eight innings in Youth Test. The first one also came against Australia U19 in a home series last year.

In the Youth ODIs that preceded, he had also broken an all-time sixes record.

On Wednesday, he cracked a 78-ball hundred, the fastest recorded Youth Test century in Australia. He finished with 113 off 86, one of two centurions alongside Vedant Trivedi, who hit 140 off 192 from No.4. They helped carry India U19 to 428, in response to Australia U19's first-innings total of 243. No one else crossed fifty, with No.8 Khilan Patel the next best score with 49.

India U19 were bowled out right before stumps, giving them the opportunity to bowl at the hosts just before close. Deepesh Devendran, who took five wickets in the first innings, managed another one in the six-over period.

Suryavanshi equals Brendon McCullum's Youth Test record

Suryavanshi is now one of 30 India players to hit a Youth Test ton outside the country. In terms of final strike-rate, it ranks as the second-fastest away 100-plus score by an Indian in a Youth Test, behind current captain Ayush Mhatre's 126 against England U19 earlier this year.

In terms of India U19 players, Suryavanshi has the record for the fastest century, with his 58-ball effort against Australia U19 last year still sitting at the top of the list. Overall, only England's Moeen Ali (56 balls) has a quicker century on record.

He is the first Indian to score two Youth Test centuries at quicker than run-a-ball, and only the second player overall after former New Zealand captain and current England coach Brendon McCullum.
