New Zealand captain Amelia Kerr played a stellar role in her team’s 4-1 triumph in the home T20I series against South Africa.
Amelia Kerr joins exclusive list after exceptional T20I series
During the fourth T20I, Kerr had become the first to score 10 consecutive 30s in women’s T20Is. In the “dead-rubber” fifth match, at Christchurch, she not only extended that to 11 but hit a hundred.
Kerr walked out in the second over, at 9-1, and left in the final over, with the score on 186. She dominated the scoring over this period, hitting 105 in 55 balls with 19 fours and a six. This was her highest score in the format, surpassing the 51-ball 101 not out against Zimbabwe at Hamilton exactly a month ago.
New Zealand finished on 194-6 as Ayabonga Khaka and Tumi Sekhukhune returned 3-32 each from their respective four overs. The South African chase never gained momentum, and they finished on 102-9 against Lea Tahuhu (4-0-15-3), Nensi Patel (4-0-18-1), Sophie Devine (2-0-8-2), and Kerr (3-0-6-2). With that, New Zealand clinched the series 4-1.
Kerr finished the series with 276 runs and five wickets. Hayley Matthews (in Australia in 2023/24) is the only one to score 250 runs and take five wickets in a bilateral women’s T20I series.
