Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out of India’s tour of the UK due to a quadriceps injury.
Nitish Kumar Reddy ruled out of India's tour of England and Ireland
The seam-bowling all-rounder was picked in all three India squads for the tours of Ireland and England – the T20I series against Ireland, followed by five T20Is and three ODIs against England. However, he aggravated a left quadriceps injury during the third India-Afghanistan ODI in Chennai and was subsequently ruled out, as per ESPNCricinfo.
Hardik Pandya is also missing the UK tour as he continues his recovery from a leg injury that had kept him out of the Afghanistan ODIs. This leaves India without a seam-bowling all-rounder on the tour.
Reddy had a strong showing in the IPL, scoring 302 runs and taking eight wickets – by far his best season with the ball. He put up a strong showing in the first ODI against Afghanistan, returning figures of 2-31, but picked up an injury that forced him to miss the second match. He returned for the third game, where he bowled six wicketless overs for 42 runs but seemingly aggravated his injury.
Press Trust of India report that the all-rounder will now “report at CoE for further assessment” after an MRI “revealed swelling with fiber disruption in the left quadriceps”. The BCCI are yet to announce a replacement for Reddy, but Times of India’s Gaurav Gupta reports that Mumbai and Punjab Kings all-rounder Suryansh Shedge, who played for India A in the recent tri-series in Sri Lanka, could be picked.
India are scheduled to play two T20Is in Ireland, on June 26 and 28, before heading to England for a five-T20I series, starting July 1, followed by a three-ODI series, which will be played from July 14 to 19.
