India squad for Asia Cup 2025, live updates: Who's in, who's out?

Now, reports suggest that both Shubman Gill and Mohammed Siraj, stars for India on the England tour, might not make the cut for the Asia Cup.

Former India batter Mohammad Kaif has put together his preferred squad-

Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Shubman Gill, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Varun Chakaravarthy, Jitesh Sharma and Mohammed Siraj.

According to reports, the India captain is fit and ready after getting medical clearance.

Since the T20 World Cup in June last year, India have won 16 out of 20 matches, the most by a Full Member nation. 
 

If Sanju Samson is the primary keeper, there is place for a backup, which could be filled by Jitesh. A member of RCB's title-winning campaign, he struck at 176 this year.

According to reports, Iyer and Jaiswal might not make it to the Asia Cup squad. 

The BCCI is reportedly waiting for all players' medical reports before finalising the squad.

The Centre of Excellence's Sports Science team is checking the status of Suryakumar Yadav and a few other Indian players. Based on that, the squad could be announced either on August 19 or 20.

A significant update in the Indian camp is that Bumrah is available for the tournament, according to a PTI report. 

A PTI report suggests that the three top order batters, of whom Sai Sudharsan is yet to debut in the format, could be in contention for the Asia Cup.

The last time the Asia Cup was played in the T20 format was in 2022. India failed to qualify for the final after losing to Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the Super Four. India's squad for the event included:

Shreyas Iyer's last T20I match came in December 2023, right after the 2023 ODI World Cup, against Australia. Overall, he has plyed 51 T20Is for India - scoring 1104 runs at an average of 30.66 and strike rate of 136.12.

Axar Patel was elevated to vice-captaincy and was Suryakumar Yadav's deputy in the home T20I series against England earlier this year.

The top-ranked Indian T20I bowlers are: Varun Chakravarthy (4th), Ravi Bishnoi (7th), and Arshdeep Singh (10th).

Jasprit Bumrah, whose last T20I was the 2024 T20 World Cup final, is currently ranked 42nd.

Abhishek Sharma (1st), Tilak Varma (3rd), Suryakumar Yadav (6th), and Yashasvi Jaiswal (10th) are the top-ranked Indian T20I batters. 

Shubman Gill, reported to be named vice-captain for the Asia Cup, is ranked 40 in the format as of August 10, 2025.

India's last T20I series was at home against England earlier this year. The following members were part of that squad:

According to Revsportz, India Test skipper Shubman Gill is set to make a T20I comeback – as vice-captain.

The same Times of India report claimed that Rishabh Pant, who suffered a toe fracture during the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, won’t require surgery. 

However, he is out of action for at least six weeks, effectively ruling him out of the Asia Cup 2025. 

According to a Times of India report, Shreyas Iyer is expected to return in India's T20I squad for Asia Cup.

"We need Iyer’s class and experience in the middle order in all formats," a BCCI source told Times of India. 

Iyer last played a T20I in December 2023

Jasprit Bumrah could miss the Asia Cup 2025 due to workload management. 

"If Bumrah plays Asia Cup and suppose India plays the final, no way can he play against West Indies at Ahmedabad. Obviously, the question arises, do you need Bumrah against West Indies or he plays Asia Cup after a month's break and plays the two Tests against South Africa. That call, Ajit Agarkar and Gautam Gambhir will have to take," Times Now mentioned a BCCI source quoting to PTI. 

So far, Gill has played 21 T20I matches for India, scoring 578 runs at an average of 30.42 and strike rate of 139.27. He has one hundred and three fifties to his name. Gill's last T20I outing came on July 30, 2024 in Sri Lanka.
