Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s blistering form doesn’t seem to stop - he smashed a 14-ball fifty in the DY Patil T20 Cup while playing for DY Patil Blue today (February 26).
Sooryavanshi has taken the world by storm, with his attacking gameplay and aggressive batting. He burst onto the scene with a 35-ball hundred against the Gujarat Titans in the 2025 IPL, becoming the youngest centurion (14 years and 32 days). It was also the fastest IPL ton by an Indian in the history of the tournament.
Sooryavanshi then made his entry into the under-19 set-up, where he thrived even further: Across 25 Youth ODIs, he has scored 1,412 runs at an average of 56.48, but his strike rate of 165.72 stands out. He also has four hundreds and seven fifties in the format, with a high score of 175, made off just 80 balls, in the Under-19 World Cup final that India won.
The 14-year-old also averages 33.1 in six Youth Tests, also at an intimidating strike rate of 136.77, but it is in the shortest format where he has had the biggest impact.
Sooryavanshi scores another quickfire fifty in domestic T20 tournament
The youngster, who was in the news for skipping his class X board examination recently, has played 18 T20 matches thus far, scoring 701 runs. He has a strike rate of an astonishing 204.37, striking over 150 in 12 innings that he has played so far.
Sooryavanshi is currently playing in the domestic DY Patil T20 Cup, where he made another blazing start. Opening the innings for DY Patil Blue in the run chase of 220 set by Indian Navy, Sooryavanshi scored 16 off four in the first over, before racing away to 43 in 12 balls. He reached his fifty in the fifth over of the innings, with a six and a four, getting there in 14 balls.
He hit one more six before departing on 63 runs off 19 balls, hitting seven fours and five sixes at a strike rate of 331.58.
It was also in this tournament that discarded India pacer Umran Malik conceded 59 runs in two overs on Wednesday.
