Isaac Mohammed, Moeen Ali’s nephew, hit a quickfire 42 in the first ‘Youth ODI’ between England and India Under-19 teams

Isaac Mohammed, Moeen Ali’s nephew, hit a quickfire 42 in the first ‘Youth ODI’ between England and India's under-19 teams.

The hosts chose to bat first in the inaugural Youth ODI at the County Ground in Hove. Opening batter Isaac attacked from the start, powering England to 76-2 by the 12th over before his dismissal. His 28-ball 42, including three fours and four sixes, featured particularly severe treatment of Henil Patel (20 runs off 11 balls) and Yudhajit Guha (18 off 13).

England’s innings became a one-man show after that as only Rocky Flintoff – son of legend Andrew – offered resistance, with six batters falling for single-digit scores. Flintoff played 90 deliveries for his 56, constrained by regular wickets at the other end. His knock (including three fours and three sixes) ended as he was the last batter out. England finished with 174 in 42.2 overs. Henil, RS Ambrish, and Enaan claimed two wickets each, while Kanishk Chouhan’s 3-20 was the standout.

      Who is Isaac Mohammed?

Born in Solihull, Warwickshire, 17-year-old Isaac – nephew of former England all-rounder Moeen Ali – showcased his explosive potential with a blistering innings against India U19 on Friday. This came as no surprise after his impressive T20 debut earlier this month for Worcestershire Rapids against Durham in the T20 Blast, where he smashed 32 off 15 balls opening the innings in a 156-run chase. With a stance as simple and uncomplicated as his uncle's, Isaac scored 30 of those runs in boundaries (three fours, three sixes), demonstrating his ability at this level.
