Matthew John Fisher is a 6ft 2inches right-arm fast bowler from New Zealand, widely regarded as one of the quickest bowlers in the country. Fisher was a standout talent at St Paul’s Collegiate School before making his mark in the domestic circuit with the Northern Districts, also famous as Northern Brave. Known for his pace and ability to extract steep bounce using his height, Fisher has overcome significant injury hurdles, including back stress fractures and shin issues, to become a vital component of New Zealand’s fast-bowling stocks.

Fisher’s international journey hit a historic high in August 2025 when he made his Test debut for New Zealand against Zimbabwe. He lived up to the fans' expectations by taking 2 off 38 in his debut match, helping lead the pace attack alongside Matt Henry and Will O'Rourke. While he has primarily focused on the red ball format and domestic T20s, his recent selection for the Bangladesh tour signals a growing role in New Zealand's limited-overs plans. He also remains a regular feature for New Zealand A, notably claiming a sensational 6 off 43 in a first-class match against South Africa A in late 2025.

The 2025-26 season was a major comeback period for Fisher. After a shin injury sidelined him during parts of the New Zealand home summer, he was officially recalled to the Black Caps on March 31, 2026, for the tour of Bangladesh. Prior to his international return, he was active for Northern Districts in the Super Smash, where he delivered several impactful spells, including a dominant 3 for 19 runs against Central Districts in January 2026.
