A left-hand batsman, Mehrab Hossain Jr topped the Bangladesh batting averages at ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2006 in Sri Lanka, having scored 196 runs at 49. He also took the most wickets (13 at 8.38) with his left-arm spin.
Soon, Hossain was selected for the ICC Champions Trophy 2006 after an impressive A tour of Bangladesh in June and July 2006, which included 128 in the second four-day match, at Mutare, and a match-winning 65 not out at Bulawayo. He then went on to make his Test debut against Sri Lanka the following year.
