In this quiz, you have to answer ten questions about cricketing performances that came while battling pain.
In the early days of inter-county cricket, teams often travelled in groups of exactly 11 – in other words, there was no reserve. Just ahead of the Hampshire match of 1843 at Southampton, Thomas Barker of Nottinghamshire broke his leg while getting out of a taxi. Instead of allowing it to be reduced to a 11-versus-10 contest, Hampshire allowed Francis Noyes of Nottinghamshire to bat twice in each innings. The match had first-class status.

Noyes, or anyone else, would not be allowed to bat four times in a match today. However, despite undergoing changes, the Laws of Cricket do allow substitutions (even full replacements – for concussions or, depending on the contest, myriad other reasons). Some players, however, have withstood the pain to take the field and play their part in the game.
