Despite being bowled out for 74 against England while batting first in the league stage, the Pakistan captain opted to bat against the same opposition in the World Cup final. He walked out at 20-1, and was joined by his vice-captain at 24-2. The two legends put on 139 to set up the launching for the final slog. The No.5, the hero of the semi-final, biffed his way to a 35-ball 42, while promoted to No.6, their left-arm fast bowler hit an 18-ball 33 to push Pakistan to 249-6.

The rest caved in despite some hitting from the tail-enders. Fittingly, the Pakistan captain picked up the last wicket to seal Pakistan’s first – and till date, only – World Cup title
