On August 24, 1971, India beat England to win their first ever Test match – and series – on English soil. Can you name every Indian cricketer on that tour?

Until 1971, India had played 19 Test matches in England, across six series. They had drawn four of these and lost 15, including whitewashes on their two previous tours, in 1967 and 1959.

India needed 183 to win the first Test of the three-match series, at Lord’s. In an attempt to race against the clock, they lost too many wickets, and eventulally finished on 145-8. Rain took away a chunk of the Old Trafford Test that England dominated. England also led by 71 runs at The Oval before an Indian leg-spinner ran through them with 6-38. The visitors then lost six wickets before chasing 173 to win their first Test (and series) in England.
