There have been six IPL finals since 2020, with CSK being the most successful side, winning twice - in 2021 and 2023. It took their tally up to five IPL titles, and they are now tied with Mumbai Indians with the most trophies in the league (5).

In 2020, Mumbai Indians clinched their fifth title, after beating Delhi Capitals in the final by five wickets. Two years later, Gujarat Titans created history by becoming just the second team to win an IPL trophy in their first season (after Rajasthan Royals in 2008). GT were incorporated into the league as one of the two new sides alongside LSG in 2022.

In 2024, Kolkata Knight Riders broke their ten-year jinx as they became the third-most successful team in the IPL, with their third title. The addition of mentor Gautam Gambhir was a massive boost, as they won their first title since 2014.

2025 has a guaranteed new winner after Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings, both around since the inception of the league, qualified for the final. While RCB beat Punjab in the first qualifier, PBKS defeated Gujarat and Mumbai en route to their first final since 2014.
