Bowling milestones are unlike batting milestones in the sense that the bowler has to compete with your teammates to achieve them. For example, if a bowler takes eleven wickets in a Test, none of their teammates will get ten in the same match. While supporting each other, thus, bowlers can end up being each other’s rivals in their quest for the milestone.

The ten-wicket haul is, thus, a rare feat. Muttiah Muralidaran did get it 22 times, but the count drops to less than half for Shane Warne (10), the next name on the list. As a result, there are inevitably several bowlers – some of them all-time greats – who went through their careers without ever taking 10 wickets in a Test match. This includes quite a few who have gone to take nine in a Test, but not that tenth scalp.
