Over the years, The Gabba has been Australia’s stronghold – so much that the venue often hosts the first Test match of the summer to get the hosts off to a winning start. The notion of a fortress was built on solid foundation: between 1988/89 and 2020/21, no touring side had won a Test match there. There is a reason they call it the Gabbatoir.

The Gabba has also hosted other sports, from AFL to football to rugby to even pony and greyhound racing. However, the venue is set to be demolished after the 2032 Brisbane Summer Olympics. The Brisbane Olympic Stadium will become the Test venue in the city.
