Australia squad for India ODIs and T20Is

Australia have announced their ODI and T20I squads to face India in the limited-overs series beginning later this month.

Marnus Labuschagne dropped from ODIs

The squads have been named for the ODI series, as well as two of the five T20Is, keeping options open for the final three T20Is with changes expected alongside the Sheffield Shield.

Notably, Marnus Labuschagne has been dropped from the ODI setup, having suffered a torrid run of form in the format of late. Since his 77* against England last September, Labuschagne has gone 10 innings without a fifty, half of which have been single-digit scores. However, the announcement came less than a day after Labuschagne cracked 160 for Queensland against Tasmania in the Sheffield Shield, with his focus likely to now shift on securing an Ashes spot.

Labuschagne's Queensland teammate Matt Renshaw, capped in Tests but yet to play an ODI, could be in line for a debut in the format. The 29-year old essays middle-order roles for his domestic team, and averages 41.13 in List A cricket, with seven centuries in 74 innings. He top-scored in the recent unofficial ODI series against Sri Lanka A, hitting 248 runs at 82.66.

Mitchell Starc returns

Among other changes, Mitchell Starc makes a return to the ODI side, having last played the format in November 2024. Retired from ODIs, there's no Glenn Maxwell in T20Is either, having injured himself in a freak training incident.

The squads for the last three T20Is will be announced at a later time.

According to Cricket Australia, chair of selectors George Bailey said: “We have named a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be some management through the back end of the series as individuals prepare for the summer through Sheffield Shield cricket.

“The majority of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s an important period in the build towards the World Cup next year, however we are trying to strike a balance to ensure we simultaneously prepare certain individuals for the Test series ahead.”

India announced their squads last week, with Rohit Sharma replaced by Shubman Gill as ODI captain.
