Leicestershire fast bowler Josh Hull’s torrid day came to an end when had to be taken out of the attack after bowling two full tosses above the waist level.
Requiring 20 points from three games to secure a promotion to Division One, Leicestershire picked up two bowling points on the first day against Gloucestershire at New Road, Leicester even as the visitors finished the day on 382-7 after James Bracey won the toss and opted to bat.
Coming on first-change, Hull struck twice in nine balls (bowled off the inside edge, caught behind) to reduce the tourists to 55-2, but Ben Charlesworth (74) and Miles Hammond (50) put on 90 for the third wicket to put them back on track.
Despite the early blows, Hull had a torrid time again, bowling 11 no-balls, most of them while overstepping. He had Hammond caught at deep backward square leg, but ended up bowling two full-tosses above the waist level. As a result, umpires Hassan Adnan and Paul Baldwin barred him from bowling for the rest of the match. He finished the innings with 11.3-1-79-3.
The next big stand, 146 for the fifth wicket, was between James Bracey (69) and Graeme van Buuren (101 after being caught off a no-ball for 55). Leicestershire’s woes were compounded when Ben Mike walked off mid-over later in the day, presumably with a hamstring issue, but Chris Wright’s (3-56) strikes ensured the hosts got the points they needed.
Along with captain Ian Holland and Logan van Beek, Wright is one of the three fit, eligible bowlers Leicestershire have at their disposal for the rest of the Gloucestershire first innings.
