England's Harry Brook has become the No.1-ranked batter in Test cricket, following the latest update to the ICC rankings.
Harry Brook, Shubman Gill, Jamie Smith make significant gains
Nearly 1,700 runs were scored in the Edgbaston Test between England and India last week, meaning batters from those two sides have made some big moves in the rankings.
Harry Brook scored 158 & 23, giving him enough of a boost to overtake teammate Joe Root (22 & six) and reclaim the No.1 spot among Test batters. Brook was briefly the No.1-ranked Test batter in December 2024 as well.
England wicketkeeper Jamie Smith impressed at Edgbaston with scores of 184 and 88 even as his side lost. That has given him a 16-place push, into 10th, entering the top ten for the first time in his brief career thus far.
Another first-time entrant to the top ten is India skipper Shubman Gill, who scored 269 & 161 in a record-breaking performance. He moved up 15 spots, from 21st to sixth. His rating of 807 is also a career-best.
Wiaan Mulder's 367* earns him massive rise
In the Zimbabwe-South Africa Test at Bulawayo, Proteas skipper Wiaan Mulder scored a national-record 367*, declaring before he could take the all-time record of 400* off Brian Lara. That has seen him shoot up 34 places, to 22nd in the batting rankings.
Mulder also took three wickets in the match, his performances in both disciplines earning him a 12-spot rise among all-rounders. He is now third in the world, behind Ravindra Jadeja and Mehidy Hasan Miraz.
The top 12 bowlers in the world remain unchanged, with the most significant mover there being Akash Deep, who took 10 wickets at Edgbaston; he moved from 84th to 45th in world, a jump of 39 places.
