The 2025 season of the IPL has been suspended, amid the ongoing India-Pakistan conflict.

The 2025 season of the IPL has reportedly been suspended indefinitely, amid the ongoing India-Pakistan conflict.

Cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan have been heightened since the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22 claimed 26 lives, following which military action has ensued from both sides.

Naturally, the ongoing conflict has led to disruptions in the T20 franchise leagues of both countries, the PSL and IPL, which are running concurrently for the first time.

IPL 2025 suspended for a week, one day after called-off match

On May 8, the IPL's first scheduling hitch came as the Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals match in Dharamshala, near the India-Pakistan border, was abandoned after just 10 overs. A "technical failure" with one of the floodlight towers failing appeared to be the initial reason, but the stadium was soon evacuated, with IPL chair Arun Singh Dhumal calling the abandonment a "precautionary step", in the wake of news of untoward incidents in Jammu.

A BCCI statement on Friday afternoon confirmed the suspension of the league for one week's time: "The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to suspend the remainder of the ongoing TATA IPL 2025 with immediate effect for one week. Further updates regarding the new schedule and venues of the tournament will be announced in due course after a comprehensive assessment of the situation in consultation with relevant authorities and stakeholders."

There are still 12 group stage games to be played, and the four playoff matches afterwards. As of now, no team has secured a top four spot in the league.

Confirmation on the BCCI's next course of action is expected in the next few days. Aside from the venues, the other major issue for the board and franchises is the well-being of overseas players in the league – reports suggest that a few may already be uneasy about staying back in the country.

Pakistan Super League shifted to UAE

Earlier on May 9, the Pakistan Super League also underwent a major scheduling change. The May 8 fixture between Karachi Kings and Peshawar Zalmi had been postponed indefinitely, before the league announced that the four remaining group fixtures as well as the playoffs would be moved out of Pakistan, to the UAE.
