Both teams had to make some forced changes as many first-choice players left due to national duties following the rescheduling. GT have heavily depended on their top three for run-scoring, and Jos Buttler’s unavailability is a huge blow for them. Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis, who has yet to play an IPL match, is the only possible change for GT to replace the former England captain.
MI, on the other hand, have replaced Will Jacks, Ryan Rickelton and Corbin Bosch with Jonny Bairstow, Richard Gleeson and Charith Asalanka, respectively. Unlike Mendis, Bairstow has been an IPL veteran and is expected to replace Rickelton at the top. Their bowling attack looks set ever since Jasprit Bumrah joined, so Asalanka is set to replace Jacks in the playing XI.
