Scott Currie of Manchester Originals bowls during the The Hundred match between Manchester Originals Men and Southern Brave Men at Emirates Old Trafford on August 06, 2025 in Manchester, England

Scotland seamer Scott Currie has been called up by England as an injury replacement just three days before their T20I series against Ireland begins.

Currie replaced seamer Saqib Mahmood, who was ruled out of the three T20Is against Ireland starting September 17 due to a knee injury. Mahmood last played in the second game of the three-match ODI series against South Africa in early September. He finished with figures of 0-53 in a defeat, as England conceded a 2-0 lead. The 25-year-old has had trouble with injuries in his short England career so far, with a recurring lower-back stress fracture troubling him previously in 2022 and 2023.

"Hampshire right-armer Scott Currie has been added to the squad for the three IT20s against Ireland as a replacement for Mahmood, who is set to undergo minor knee surgery and which will rule him out of the white-ball tour of New Zealand in October," a statement from the ECB read.

Who is Scott Currie?

Born in Dorset, England, the 24-year-old Currie went on to play three ODIs for Scotland in March during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 competition, qualifying through his Scottish father.

His England call-up came a day after he featured in the T20 Blast Finals Day for Hampshire. He took 2-34 in the semi-final against Northamptonshire, followed by 2-44 against Somerset in the final, although his team fell short by six wickets in the title clash.

Having played age-group cricket for Dorset and later for Hampshire, Currie has represented England Under-19s, most notably at the 2019-2020 U19 World Cup. He finished as England’s joint-second-highest wicket-taker with seven scalps at an average of 13.85 and an economy of 4.40.

England will be led by Jacob Bethell, who is set to become their youngest-ever men's captain.
