West Indies batter Keacy Carty continued his rich vein of form by smashing a second consecutive ODI hundred in the series decider against Ireland in Dublin on Sunday (May 25).
West Indies were asked to bat first in the third and final ODI, with the series 1-0 in favour of Ireland. They were jolted early after Barry McCarthy removed both openers, Brandon King (1) and Evin Lewis (14), cheaply.
The balance of the visitors’ innings was restored by Carty, who walked in at No.3. In a 142-ball marathon knock, he scored 170. Carty’s knock was studded with 15 fours and eight sixes. His 137-run stand with captain Shai Hope (75) built a solid platform for the batting side to cash in. Then a 23-ball 50 from Justin Greaves took the West Indies to 385-7, their second-highest total in an ODI, falling just four short of their record total of 389 against England in 2019.
This marked Carty's second consecutive century. His 102 off 109 balls in the second match helped propel the tourists to 352-8 before rain forced abandonment.
Carty has been in scintillating form over the past few months, a purple patch that began with his match-winning 128 in the series decider against England at Bridgetown last November. Since then, he has amassed 567 runs in seven ODIs at an average of 94.50 and a strike rate of 102.71, including three centuries and a fifty.

Keacy Carty's 567 runs now rank as the third-highest tally by a West Indies batter across seven consecutive ODI innings. The national record remains with Viv Richards (577 runs), followed closely by Chris Gayle (576). Hope sits fourth with 549 runs. Richards' tally came between 20 June 1979 and 16 January 1980, while Gayle's spanned from 25 March 2018 to 31 May 2019. Carty has become just the third West Indies player, alongside Brian Lara and Phil Simmons, to score three centuries in seven consecutive ODI innings.
Carty now holds the joint-sixth-highest ODI score for West Indies, alongside Hope. The record remains with Chris Gayle for his 215 against Zimbabwe at the 2015 World Cup – still the only double-century by a West Indies batter.
Among non-openers, Carty’s knock ranks third, trailing Richards’ 189* (vs England, 1984) and 181 (vs Sri Lanka, 1987).
