Prithvi Shaw century Mumbai vs Maharashtra

Prithvi Shaw began his Ranji Trophy preparations with a century in a warm-up match between Maharashtra and Mumbai on Tuesday (October 7).

Mumbai are playing Maharashtra in a three-day practice match at the MCA Stadium in Pune from October 7-9 ahead of the start of the new Ranji Trophy season. Maharashtra are being led by Ankeet Bawane while Shardul Thakur is leading Mumbai.

Several high-profile players are featuring in this game on both sides, including India's Asia Cup final hero Shivam Dube for Mumbai, and Ruturaj Gaikwad and Jalaj Saxena for Maharashtra.

Shaw, who switched sides this season, is playing his first match against Mumbai, the team he used to previously represent.

Ranji Trophy warm-up: Prithvi Shaw comes good against Mumbai

Shaw moved from Mumbai to Maharashtra earlier this year after he was dropped from the Mumbai side last season. He started his stint with the new side in emphatic fashion in the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament in August, making a hundred in his first appearance for them.

Now, playing against Mumbai for the first time, Shaw has come up with another statement performance.

Opening the batting alongside all-rounder Arshin Kulkarni, Shaw compiled a composed hundred off just 140 balls, reaching three figures with a glance down to fine leg off Shardul Thakur.

Kulkarni was the first to get to hundred between the two, taking just 95 balls to reach the mark. Shaw was batting on 76 at that point. Kulkarni was eventually dismissed close to a double hundred - for 186 off 139 balls - bringing an end to a massive 305-run opening partnership.

At the time of writing, Shaw is batting on 117 off 160 balls, joined by Siddhesh V at No.3.
