Vidarbha’s Aman Mokhade became the joint-fastest batter to 1000 List A runs with his Vijay Hazare Trophy semi-final ton on Thursday (January 15).

Aman Mokhade scores fifth century of Vijay Hazare Trophy season

Mokhade, enjoying a breakthrough 2025-26 domestic season, maintained his form in the VHT semi-final against Karnataka, hitting 138 off 122 to lead his side to a six-wicket win. This was the opener’s fifth hundred in nine games of the 50-over competition, putting him on top of the run-scoring chart this term.

Batting first, Karnataka lost both their openers, Mayank Agarwal and Devdutt Padikkal, in the form of his life, by the seventh over with just 20 on the board. Fifties from Karun Nair (76) and Krishnan Shrijith (54) then took them to a fighting 280 at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

Right-arm pacer Darshan Nalkande stood out for Vidarbha with the ball, taking his third five-wicket haul in the format. But his performance was overshadowed by Mokhade, who struck a record-breaking century, adding 98 runs for the second wicket with Dhruv Shorey and 147 for the third with Ravikumar Samarth.

Mokhade was dismissed for 138 in the 42nd over with Vidarbha just 27 runs away from a win. With the knock, he took his tally for the season to 781, placing him third on the all-time list of the most runs in a single VHT season. He needs 50 more runs in the final to go top of the list. Mokhade started the VHT season with 110 and 82 against Bengal and Hyderabad, respectively, before a 139 against Jammu and Kashmir, 150* against Baroda and 147 against UP.

Mokhade becomes joint-fastest to 1,000 List A runs

In the process, he equalled South Africa great Graeme Pollock’s world record of completing 1000 List A runs in 16 innings. Naturally, he also became the fastest Indian to the mark, overtaking Devdutt Padikkal and Abhinav Mukund's shared record of 17 innings.

Mokhade was his side’s top run-scorer in the 2025-26 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy with 206 runs in seven innings at a strike-rate of 157.25, including three fifties. In the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy season, meanwhile, he has scored 577 runs in seven innings at 96.16, with three hundreds and a fifty, placing him sixth on the overall list.
