Australia U19 wicketkeeper Jayden Draper scored 250 runs for East Anglia-based club Ashmanhaugh and Barton Wanderers CC last weekend, putting on a mammoth 420-run partnership with fellow centurion Jake Tarling.
Jayden Draper smashes 250 off 155 in UK club cricket
Draper, who was playing in his third game for the club that he joined this year, came to the crease against Frinton On Sea CC when the Wanderers had lost two wickets in the first 13 balls of the game. Both openers had been dismissed for single-figure scores, leaving the Wanderers at 18-2.
From there, Draper and Tarling put on a huge stand, both reaching three figures, and Draper getting a double. By the time the wicketkeeper-batter was out, there were only 13 balls left in the innings, and the Wanderers had 438 runs on the board. After Draper was trapped lbw by Saad Bin Yousuf for 250 off 155 balls, No.5 batter Jay Parmar was dismissed for a golden duck. A wicket hadn't fallen for 274 deliveries before two fell in those two balls.
Draper had already found success for the Wanderers on his previous outing for the club. He hit 73 in a Cup outing the week before, while his first innings of the season ended when he was trapped lbw by Jonah Handy for two against Mildenhall CC. The weekend was doubly special for Draper, who turned 19 years old the day after he scored 250.
Earlier this year, Draper was part of Australia's squad for the U19 World Cup in Zimbabwe, and played all of the side's six matches in the tournament. In September last year, he scored a 65-ball century for Australia U19s against India in a 50-over game in Brisbane. That innings was the third-fastest youth ODI century of all time, and the fastest-ever by an Australia U19.
