Mohammad Nabi and his son Hassan Eisakhil lined up together for Noakhali Express against Dhaka Capitals in the Bangladesh Premier League, making it a first in franchise cricket history.

On BPL debut, Hassan puts on a 53-run stand with father Mohammad Nabi

Hassan Eisakhil, on his BPL debut, created history with Nabi as they became the first father-son duo to play franchise cricket together for a team. The duo has previously played against each other in the Shpageeza Cricket League, where Hassan dispatched his all-rounder father for a first-ball six.

After receiving his maiden BPL cap from Nabi, the 19-year-old Hassan opened the batting for Noakhali alongside Soumya Sarkar. The two added 101 runs for the first wicket, with the latter falling for a 25-ball 48 in the 10th over. Shahadat Hossain and Habibur Rahman Sohan soon followed him to the pavilion, bringing Nabi to the middle.

The father-son duo added a quickfire 53 runs off 30 deliveries for the fourth wicket, taking the team from 119-3 in 13 overs to 172-4 in 18. In the process, Hassan registered his top score in T20s with a 60-ball 92-run knock that featured seven fours and five sixes. Nabi, meanwhile, scored 17 off 13.

Noakhali, currently bottom of the league and looking for just their second win in eight games this season, finished their innings at 184-7. Dhaka, second from bottom with two wins in six games, were reduced to 29-4 in the chase by the end of the powerplay.

Although this was probably first instance of a father-son duo playing (or at least batting) for a franchise, there have been at least two instances in men’s T20Is. Uala Taitoe Kaisala and his son Dougie Finau batted together for Samoa against Fiji in 2022, while Suhail Satter and Yahya Suhail played for Timor Leste against Indonesia in 2025.

Notably, Nabi delayed his ODI retirement after earlier claiming he would move on from the format after the 2025 Champions Trophy, in the hope of playing alongside his son.
