Australia U19 captain Oliver Peake’s brother Charlie hit a ton in grade cricket, while their father, Clinton Peake, was done for a duck.

Oliver Peake prepares for U19 World Cup as father and brother play grade cricket

The Peake father and son duo are playing for the Geelong 4th XI in the Kookaburra Men’s Premier Fourths one-day tournament in Australian grade cricket. In the game against Casey South Melbourne 4th XI on Sunday (January 11), while the senior Peake fell for a duck, his teenage son scored a ton to lead their side to a six-wicket win.

In a 45-over per side game, the Casey South Melbourne side batted first, and riding on opener Reshen Senevirathne’s 117-ball 106, posted 231/5. Ian Perera contributed with a 77-run knock as the duo faced a combined 224 deliveries out of the 270.

Opening the batting, Charlie held onto one end in the chase despite losing his opening partner Oscar Agg and his father, Clinton, in the same over, with just 30 runs on the board. He first added 88 runs with Fletch Grimsey-Cook and another 98 with Tamar Holt, losing his wicket with the side just 16 short of the target. In the process, he also completed his ton and finished on a 132-ball 101, his top score in grade cricket.

This was the father-son duo’s second appearance together in the ongoing 2025/26 season after they lined up against St Kilda 4th XI on December 20 last year. Both scored 17 runs each in the game as Geelong 4th XI lost by 22 runs.

Notably, Cliton, now 48 years old, holds the record of the highest score in Youth Tests, and is the only batter to hit a triple hundred in the format. Batting at No.3, just like in grade cricket currently, he scored 304 for Australia U19 against India U19 at the MCG in March 1995.

Oliver Peake, meanwhile, will captain defending champions Australia at the U19 World Cup in Zimbabwe and Namibia, starting on Thursday (January 15). They will begin their campaign on Friday against Ireland before facing Japan on January 20 and Sri Lanka three days later. They are also scheduled to play warm-up games against Afghanistan and South Africa.
