Jahandad Khan starred for Pakistan TV in their President’s Cup semi-final win over Oil and Gas on Monday (December 22).
Jahandad Khan's all-round brilliance takes PTV to President's Cup final
The Pakistan all-rounder, batting at No. 7, first struck a 47-ball 63 to take his side to a respectable total before a team effort with the ball, which saw all five bowlers, including Jahandad, take two wickets each, booked their place in the final.
Pakistan TV captain Shamyl Hussain had been the chief run-scorer for his side throughout the tournament, having mustered almost 400 runs in seven games in the lead-up to the semi-final. However, the southpaw couldn’t carry his form into the crucial game, falling for 11 off 15.
The side were reduced from 28-0 to 30-2 and then 74-2 to 74-4 before Mohammad Taha and Taimur Khan constructed a crucial 85-run partnership for the fifth wicket. But the duo was dismissed in a space of two deliveries, and Amad Butt followed them with a 10-ball duck.
This is when Jahandad took it upon himself to take Pakistan TV to a defendable total. He struck six boundaries and four sixes in his 63-run knock - his best in List-A cricket - while batting with the tail. Ali Usman ably supported him with a 29-ball 15 as Pakistan TV posted 241.
Oil & Gas openers Imam-ul-Haq and Maaz Sadaqat have been two of the most prolific run-scorers in the ongoing President’s Cup. While Imam leads the run-scoring charts, Maaz is also in the top five, but the duo couldn’t convert their starts in the semi-final.
Opening the bowling for PTV, Jahandad dismissed Maaz, triggering a series of dismissals that saw O&G get all-out for 157, with the all-rounder picking up the last wicket to finish with figures of 5.5-0-30-2. He was deservedly named the Player of the Match.
Notably, his 143 runs in the tournament have come at a strike rate of 122.2, which is only second to Maaz in the tournament. He has also picked up eight wickets at 31.37, with his best so far coming in the semifinal.
The 22-year-old left-arm seam-bowling all-rounder has featured in eight T20Is for Pakistan so far, havign made his debut in Australia in 2024. From eight games, he has scored 29 runs and taken seven wickets.
