Wisden Photograph of the Year 2024 winner

The 2025 Wisden Cricket Photograph of the Year competition is now open for entries. The contest is open to all photographers, amateur or professional, from anywhere in the world.

It remains free to enter. The only stipulations are that images must have a cricketing theme and have been taken during the 2025 calendar year.

The three category winners will appear as the first three colour photographs in the 2026 edition of Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack. The winner will receive £1,000, and the two runners-up £400 each. All three category winners, together with seven shortlisted photographs, will be on display in the gallery beneath the Galadari Stand at The Kia Oval.

The competition aims to promote and sustain cricket in all of its forms in every corner of the globe, from an international match played in front of thousands, to a game between children on the street.

Quinn Rooney won last year’s competition for his image of the closing moment of the Boxing Day Test between Australia and India at Melbourne. The judges said that “the photographer has done brilliantly, timing being such an important part in achieving this sort of shot”. You can see his photograph here.

This year there will be three categories:

  • Men’s professional cricket
  • Women’s professional cricket
  • Recreational cricket (men, women and juniors) plus any other cricket-related imagery which does not fit into either of the first two categories.

The overall winner will be selected from the three category winners.

The independent judging panel will be chaired by Chris Smith, former chief sports photographer of The Sunday Times. Also on the panel are the acclaimed cricket photographer Patrick Eagar; filming and photography manager Clare Adams; broadcaster Alison Mitchell; Cricket District content creator Jack Meacher; and Nigel Davies, the former art director of The Wisden Cricketer.

The editor of Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack, Lawrence Booth, said: “It was another eventful year for the global game, with South Africa winning the World Test Championship, England and India playing out a remarkable Test series in the summer, and India's women winning their first World Cup soon after. We're excited to see how the world's photographers captured all that drama, and everything else besides.”

Entries, to a maximum of three per category per entrant, must be submitted online here.

There is no fee for entering. The closing date for entries is 23:59 GMT on Sunday, January 4, 2026. Winners will be announced in March 2026.
