Shafali Varma omitted as India name Women’s World Cup squad
India’s 15-member squad has no place for Shafali Varma, who is yet to play an ODI since October last year. Pratika Rawal, who has gotten off to a record start in ODIs, replaces her in the squad that will be led by Harmanpreet Kaur. The tournament will begin on September 30, with India taking on Sri Lanka.
Shubman Gill gets T20I recall, named vice-captain for Asia Cup
Shubman Gill, who last played a T20I last July, has made a comeback into the 15-member T20I team for the upcoming Asia Cup. Gill, who has a strike rate of 139 in the format, also takes over the vice-captaincy from Axar Patel. Yashasvi Jaiswal does not find a place in the team, and neither does Shreyas Iyer.
Babar, Rizwan demoted from Category A in central contracts
The PCB announced the central contracts for the 2025-26 season on Tuesday. A total of 30 players have been given contracts, but the biggest news was that no player received a Grade A contract. Last year, only two players - Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan - were given Grade A contracts, but they have been demoted to Grade B this time. Pakistan Test skipper Shan Masood falls from Grade B to Grade D as well.

Prithvi Shaw, who has moved to Maharashtra from Mumbai for the new domestic season after his career hit a roadblock due to off-field reasons, marked his debut in style. He scored 111 runs in the Buchi Babu tournament against Chhattisgarh, scoring nearly 67% of the team’s runs at the time of dismissal.
Kagiso Rabada out of Australia ODIs
The quick underwent scans for an inflammation in his right ankle, which has ruled him out of the three-match ODI series against Australia that began today. Rabada has been replaced by Kwena Maphaka in the squad.
Sam Curran achieves rare double in The Hundred
The all-rounder picked up 3-21 with the ball against Southern Brave, dismissing them for 133. In reply, Oval Invincibles were 18-2 when Sam Curran walked out to bat, and took the team over the line with an unbeaten 50 off just 33 balls. He became just the second player in The Hundred, after Liam Livingstone, to take a three-for and make a fifty in the same match. He has also previously achieved the feat, scoring 51* and picking up 5-16 last season.
