Dewald Brevis became South Africa’s youngest T20I centurion when he hit a 41-ball ton against Australia today (August 12).

Brevis, nicknamed 'Baby AB' due to his playing style resembling AB de Villiers during the 2022 Under-19 World Cup, became the second-fastest South African centurion in men's T20Is at Darwin on Tuesday. Batting first, South Africa fell to 44-2 in 4.5 overs, when Brevis walked out to bat at No.4.

He started cautiously, scoring 14 off his first 11 deliveries, before increasing the scoring rate. He raced away to his first T20I fifty in 25 balls, and needed just 16 more balls to reach triple-figures. He eventually made 125*, with his innings containing 12 fours and eight sixes, at a strike rate of 223.21.

Dewald Brevis becomes youngest South African to score men's T20I ton

Brevis also broke several records during his knock: He is the second-fastest to the landmark from South Africa, after David Miller, who reached his T20I ton in 35 balls against Bangladesh in 2017. It is also the highest individual score for South Africa in the format, surpassing Faf du Plessis’ 119 made in 2015. Brevis also became the highest scorer in a men's T20I against Australia - breaking Ruturaj Gaikwad's record, who scored 123 in 2023.

At 22 years and 105 days, he is the fifth-youngest centurion in the format among Full Member countries. Overall, he is No.6 on the list, with Tilak Varma making two hundreds at 22 years, 5 days and 22 years, 7 days respectively.

The youngest Full Member player to score a T20I hundred is Afghanistan's Hazratullah Zazai, who made 162 against Ireland in 2019 aged 20 years, 337 days.
