Biography

Omkar Tarmale is a 23-year-old right-arm fast bowler from the Thane district of Maharashtra whose rise in professional cricket is a story of raw pace and immense family sacrifice. Born on August 22, 2002, in the rural village of Shere, Tarmale spent his early years playing tennis-ball cricket and only transitioned to the leather ball at age 18.

Despite his late entry into structured academies, Tarmale developed a natural high-velocity action that saw him consistently hit the 140 kmph mark during local Mumbai tournaments.

His talent was recognized by former Indian pacer Dhawal Kulkarni, who mentored him in the T20 Mumbai League and convinced his family of his professional potential. Tarmale’s senior domestic breakthrough arrived during the 2025-26 season when he was selected for the Mumbai state team across formats. He made a successful List A debut in December 2025 against Uttarakhand, claiming 2 wickets for 40 runs, and followed it with a First-Class debut in the Ranji Trophy in January 2026 against Hyderabad, where he took 2 for 48 in his maiden innings.

This raw speed and impressive domestic initiation led to a life-changing INR 30 lakh contract with Sunrisers Hyderabad during the December 2025 mini-auction in Abu Dhabi. His recruitment was strongly recommended by SRH bowling coach Varun Aaron, who identified him as a high-potential pace project despite a brief hamstring injury during trials.
