Joginder Rao played only five matches before a parachute accident cut his first-class career. It was, however, an incredible stint: on his debut, for Services against Jammu & Kashmir in the 1963/64 Ranji Trophy, he performed a hat-trick. In his second match, he had two hat-tricks in the second innings against Northern Punjab, becoming the second cricketer with two hat-tricks in one innings and three in a season, and the first with three in his first two matches.

In 1881, WG Grace opened bowling for his team against a 28-member Bristol and District side, for whom all 28 men batted. Bowling unchanged in both innings, Grace had 17-47 in the first innings and 17-59 in the second – in other words, match figures of 34-106.
