Ben Stokes of England and Shubman Gill of India talk with Umpires Paul Reiffel and Sharfuddoula as the pitch is covered by flying ants and ladybirds during Day One of the 3rd Rothesay Test Match between England and India at Lord's Cricket Ground on July 10, 2025 in London, England

Umpiring has come under criticism for contentious decisions in the Lord’s Test between England and India. Here is a list of every DRS review and overturned decision in the 2025 Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy so far.

On day four of the third Test, Joe Root survived a narrow lbw appeal against Mohammed Siraj. In the 38th over of England’s second innings, Siraj struck Root’s pads with a ball that darted in. Root shuffled across and down the pitch and appeared to be struck in front of off and middle stump. India appealed, but umpire Paul Reiffel remained unmoved. On referral, the decision stood as the ball was only clipping leg stump resulting in "umpire's call", sparking frustration among Indian fielders.

"You thought it was crashing into the inside of the stump. When you saw that normal speed, it was hardly missing leg stump. England survive again. India animated," noted Jonathan Trott on air.

Co-commentator Anil Kumble also voiced his frustration: "It seems Paul Reiffel has decided that it is going to be not out. Anything close, not out."

Frequent ball changes have been a recurring theme in this Test series as well, sparking several controversies. On day three of the Lord's Test, on-field umpires Paul Reiffel and Sharfuddoula faced criticism for replacing the ball at the end of the drinks break during the first session.

Among recent matches – apart from this Test – the first game of the ongoing West Indies-Australia series also saw TV umpire Adrian Holdstock face criticism for several contentious decisions. West Indies captain Roston Chase and head coach Daren Sammy were vocal about the rulings going against them, resulting in Code of Conduct breaches for both.
