With the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy having now reached a brilliant conclusion, the series will go down in the record books for several reasons, including the number of centuries scored by both sets of players across the five Tests.
The Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy also saw a new record set for the most runs scored in a five-match bilateral Test series, with almost 7,000 runs scored between the two sides. The only Test series in which more runs were scored was the 1993 Ashes, which consisted of six Tests.
While 12 batters have crossed the century mark at least once during this series, the bulk of the runs have come from the No.4s as Joe Root and Shubman Gill both registered exceptional series' with the bat. India's new captain scored 754 runs across the series, notched up four centuries, and fell just short of Don Bradman's all-time record of 810 runs for the most runs scored in a bilateral Test series as captain.
Root scored a century in each of the final three Tests, and in doing so he moved up several places on Test cricket's all-time run-scorer list, and now only has Sachin Tendulkar ahead of him.
Outside of the two standouts, Rishabh Pant also contributed to the century list before a broken foot ruled him out of the series. He reached three figures twice in Leeds and averaged 68.42 in the three Tests he was able to play. There were also big performances from Ravindra Jadeja (who crossed three figures at Headingley), Harry Brook (who scored two hundreds), as well as Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Ben Stokes, Jamie Smith and Washington Sundar.
All of those centurions scored 21 hundreds between them, equalling the all-time record for hundreds scored in a bilateral series. The only other series where 21 hundreds were scored was the 1955 series between Australia and the West Indies, in which Clyde Walcott scored five centuries on his own (still a world record), while Neil Harvey and Keith Miller also registered three each.
