The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has officially granted Mustafizur Rahman a no-objection certificate (NOC) to join Delhi Capitals for a limited window during IPL 2025.
Mustafizur Rahman receives NOC for IPL league matches
The BCB confirmed on Friday afternoon that Mustafizur will be available to the franchise from May 18 to May 24, covering Delhi’s final three league-stage matches as the IPL resumes following a brief suspension due to rising political tensions between India and Pakistan.
However, he will not be available for the playoffs should the Capitals progress to the next stage.
Before flying out to India, Mustafizur is expected to feature in Bangladesh’s opening T20I against the UAE in Sharjah on Saturday. While he is slated to reach India on the day of Delhi's game against Gujarat Titans on Sunday, his immediate readiness for that match remains uncertain.
This development comes after a brief period of confusion earlier in the week. While both the IPL and Delhi Capitals had announced Mustafizur’s signing, the BCB had initially stated that it had not been approached for a NOC. That has now been resolved, clearing the way for Mustafizur’s short IPL stint.
He could still be available for the full season if the series between Bangladesh and Pakistan, originally scheduled for May 25, does not go ahead, The Daily Star reports.
Mustafizur has played 57 games in the IPL for five teams, picking up 61 scalps at an average of 28.88. He previously played for Delhi between 2022 and 2023, picking up nine wickets in 10 games across both seasons.
Several overseas DC players to give IPL a skip
Mustafizur’s arrival comes as Delhi seek reinforcements in the wake of Mitchell Starc’s withdrawal. Starc confirmed on Friday morning that he would not return for the rest of the tournament, a decision that allows him to focus on preparations for the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) final.
The Australian pacer exits the season as Delhi’s leading wicket-taker, with 14 wickets in 11 matches at an average of 26.14. Donovan Ferreira, who played just once this season, will also not rejoin the squad. Jake Fraser-McGurk will also not be returning for the last few games of the season.
Faf du Plessis and Tristan Stubbs are expected to stay on for the remainder of the league phase, though Stubbs will depart for WTC final duties, making him unavailable if Delhi make it to the playoffs.
