The Canada-Namibia-Scotland tri-series got underway on August 27 – here is the updated 2023-27 ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 points table after the result.
The latest fixtures in League 2 – a pathway tournament to the 2027 Cricket World Cup – see Canada, Namibia, and Scotland facing each other at the Maple Leaf North-West Ground in King City, Canada.
The hosts, Canada, started with a five-wicket loss against Namibia in the series opener. Namibia, which is a co-host of the 2027 World Cup, will next play Scotland. The Scottish squad includes former New Zealand batter Tom Bruce.
How does the Cricket World Cup 2027 pathway work?
The 2027 ODI World Cup will feature 14 teams. Eight teams will qualify based on the ICC ODI rankings, in addition to the hosts, South Africa and Zimbabwe. Namibia is another host, but they will not gain direct entry due to their Associate status.
The remaining four teams will be selected via the Cricket World Cup Qualifier, where the top four teams from the Cricket World Cup League 2, two of the lowest-ranked Full Member sides and the top four sides from the Cricket World Cup Qualifier Play-off will participate.
Scotland are the highest-ranked team (third) in League 2 among the tri-series participants with 24 points – the same as fourth-placed Oman but with a superior net run rate of +0.886. Two rungs below Scotland in fifth is Canada on 20 points (NRR -0.159), followed by Namibia in sixth with 16 points (NRR -0.507).
