Max Chu, Dwaine Pretorius smack rapid fifties in record Canada Super 60 total

The fifth match of the tournament, which took place on October 8, saw Vancouver Kings go up against Montreal Royal Tigers. Montreal won the toss and put Vancouver in to bat, a decision that proved costly.

Kiwi wicketkeeper Max Chu opened the batting with former Pakistan international Nauman Anwar. The pair tore Montreal's bowling to shreds, putting on an incredible 140 runs in 5.5 overs, before Chu was bowled for 82 off 23 balls. He reached his half-century off 13 balls, and hit six fours and nine sixes in all.

No.3 Moeen Aliwas bowled for a two-ball duck, but that brought Vancouver skipper, South African all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius, to the crease.

Pretorius lost the company of Anwar at the end of the seventh over, and Jaskaran Singh for a golden duck two balls later. But he faced 12 of the last 15 balls of the innings, going berserk. In the ninth and tenth overs, he hit Andrew Tye and Brad Currie for four sixes each, getting to a half-century off 14 deliveries, with a six off the final ball of the innings.

That lifted Vancouver's total to 206-4, the highest in the competition, and the first time in franchise T10 cricket that a team has scored 200 or more. The total proved more than sufficient, as they went on to win by 80 runs – pacer Baltej Singh starred with a hat-trick.

What is the highest total in T10 cricket?

Vancouver's 206 is the highest in a franchise T10 competition, Northern Warriors' 183-2 against Punjab Legends in the 2018 Abu Dhabi T10 coming closest.

But the mark has been breached in other, club-based T10 competitions. In the 2019 European Cricket League final, Netherlands internationals Scott Edwards (137 off 39) and Max O'Dowd (74 off 25) blasted VOC Rotterdam to 222-0 against SG Findorff EV.

In December 2023, Catalunya Jaguar's Hamza Saleem Dar hit an outrageous 193 off 43 balls against Sohal Hospitaltet, powering his side to 257-0 in their allotted 10 overs.
