Scotland all-rounder Brandon McMullen completed the ODI double of 1,000 runs and 50 wickets against Netherlands on Friday (June 6), becoming the second-quickest player to do so.

The hosts were put in to bat in Dundee in a CWC League 2 fixture and scored 262-9, powered by Finlay McCreath (81), Mark Watt (60) and Safyaan Sharif (36*).

McMullen himself was out for 9, batting at No.3, but he came out in the second innings and took the second new ball, bowling his medium pace. He struck in his second over, dismissing Dutch skipper Max O'Dowd caught and bowled, before dismissing Vikramjit Singh in his fourth.
The wicket of O'Dowd was McMullen's 50th in ODIs, and made him the second-fastest player to the double of 1,000 runs and 50 wickets in men's ODI cricket – taking just 33 matches. He had already crossed the 1,000-run mark against UAE last month, in his 30th ODI.
This particular record is held by former Netherlands all-rounder and current India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate, who completed the double in just 28 matches. Oman's Zeeshan Maqsood makes up an all-Associate top three, as the only other player to do it in fewer than 40 matches (37). Overall, ten players have achieved this feat in 50 ODIs or fewer.
McMullen is the second player from Scotland to score 1,000 runs and take 50 wickets in men's ODIs. Michael Leask was the first, getting there in 2023. It took him 61 matches to do so.
Last month, McMullen hit a new high in the ICC men's ODI rankings, as he overtook a couple of world stars in Glenn Maxwell and Ravindra Jadejaamong all-rounders.
