Surrey opener and England batter Paige Scholfield hit a blistering knock in Surrey's One-Day Cup win over Yorkshire today (April 15), which threatened to break the fastest-ever women's List A century.
Paige Scholfield nearly breaks fastest women's List A hundred record
Surrey bowled Yorkshire out for 185 in their second One Day Cup round fixture at The Oval, with their target revised to 193 due to the rain delay in Yorkshire's innings. They lost Bryony Smith in the third over of their chase, but Scholfield wasted no time in getting up and running, hitting the first six of her innings off the first ball of Claudie Cooper's second over. She followed that with a four off Cooper's next ball, before flat-batting her down the ground for another six when she came back on strike at the end of the over.
Scholfield brought up her half-century off 25 balls, reaching the milestone by guiding a ball from Jess Woolston down to the behind-square boundary. From there, she continued at the same pace, hitting back-to-back boundaries off Rachel Slater, and racing into the eighties with a four off the 35th ball of her innings.
At that point, Scholfield was on track to break the record for the fastest-ever List A century scored by a woman. The record is currently held by Sunette Loubser, who hit a century off 43 balls for Boland Women against Kei Women in South Africa in 2012.

However, faced with spin from Maddie Ward, Scholfield slowed down slightly, and reached 89 off 41 balls. Still technically within reach of the record, she attempted to sweep a ball from Ward, and was hit on her front pad. The umpire raised his finger, ending hopes of a blistering record being set, and leaving the field for 89 off 42 balls.
Scholfield made her England debut in 2024, after a blistering spell in domestic cricket. However, injuries and form have seen her struggle to break into the side regularly, and she wasn't in their 2025 World Cup squad. She was involved with their winter training camps, however, playing in their intra-squad series in South Africa last month.
Surrey went on to lose captain Kira Chathli for a golden duck the ball after Scholfield was dismissed, with Jemima Spence also dismissed by Ward in her next over. With Maitlan Brown also out for a duck, that left Surrey 154-6, still needing 40 runs to win. Alice Davidson-Richards steered them towards their target, with Kalea Moore also out before Surrey got over the line seven wickets down with 123 balls remaining.
The win gives Surrey two wins from two in their One Day Cup campaign so far, with Yorkshire having lost both of their two opening fixtures.
