After scoring heavily across the Youth ODIs and Youth Tests, Vaibhav Suryavanshi was dismissed for a golden duck in his last innings of the England tour today (July 23).
Vaibhav Suryavanshi finishes U19 tour with duck
The 14-year-old Suryavanshi smashed records in the five-match 50-over series, scoring 355 runs at an average of 71 and a strike rate of 174.01 in India’s 3-2 win over England. This included the fastest hundred in Youth ODI history, off 52 balls.
He then followed it up with scores of 14 and 56 in the first four-day game while also breaking the national record by becoming the youngest Indian to take a wicket in a Youth Test.
In the first innings of the second match at Chelmsford, Suryavanshi was dismissed for 20 off 14 balls in a quickfire knock that included one four and two sixes as India U19 collapsed to 279 all out in response to England U19's 309. The England side then attacked their way to 324-5 declared in their second innings, setting up a mammoth target of 355 for the visitors to get in a 65 overs on the final day.
Given the lack of time remaining in the game, India U19 would have pinned their hopes on Suryavanshi to give them a fast start, but the teenage prodigy departed first-ball for a golden duck, bowled by Alex Green, bringing an end to a highly successful tour for the youngster.
Over the course of the seven matches, Suryavanshi scored 445 runs including two fifties and one hundred. Earlier in the year, he stunned the world with his exploits at the 2025 IPL, hitting the second-fastest hundred in the tournament's history, off just 35 balls.
Suryavanshi's wicket, however, didn't deter India in their chase, as captain Ayush Mhatre smashed a 64-ball ton, keeping his team on course for an unlikely win. Suryavanshi himself holds the India record for the fastest Youth Test ton, having scored one in 58 balls last year against Australia U19.
