Roston Chase's heroics for St Lucia Kings go in vain after final-ball six

At the Providence Stadium in Guyana, St Lucia skipper David Wiese won the toss and elected to bat. Openers Tim Seifert and Johnson Charles were both back in the hut inside four overs, with 27 on the board. That brought West Indies Test captain Roston Chase together with Ackeem Auguste.

The pair put on 90 for the third wicket before Auguste went for 50, caught off the bowling of Imran Tahir. Soon after, Chase brought up a half-century off 32 balls. He accelerated towards the end of the innings, scoring 48 off his last 23 balls to finish unbeaten on 90 off 55 balls and take the Kings to 185-4.

Guyana's chase was led by opener Quentin Sampson, who smashed 76 off 39 balls, including five sixes. His stay was ended in the 12th over, as he skied a slog sweep off a Chase off-break. The very next ball, new batter Shimron Hetmyer stepped out to Chase only to york himself, and see his stumps pegged back.

Chase struck once again, in his following over as Hassan Khan misjudged the flight of the ball to be stumped. Despite his returns of 3-30, Chase ended up on the losing side as Dwaine Pretorius hit a full toss from Wiese into the stands off the last delivery of the match, when four were required. The victory sealed Guyana's spot in the playoffs, eliminating the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots.

Chase became the 23rd player to score 90 runs and take three wickets in a domestic men's T20 match. He was, however, just the second to do so in a losing cause. In December 2017, Marcus Stoinis scored 99 and took 3-38 for the Melbourne Stars against Brisbane Heat in the BBL, but the Stars lost by 15 runs.
